76 Quay Street, Manchester, now relaunched as The Axle, is a four-storey Victorian industrial building in the heart of the city, reimagined as a state-of-the-art workspace. We delivered this refurbishment over several years, from initial design concept and planning considerations, through to furnishing, dressing and mobilisation.

Our involvement began with design consultancy, finishes selection and space planning, working alongside the architect and later the principal contractor. From there, we progressed through furniture specification and procurement, as well as artwork curation, dressing, lighting and signage design and installation.

The client’s brief called for a distinct identity on each floor, from a dark, moody scheme at the top, maximising the impact of large windows and vaulted ceilings, to lighter, brighter environments on the lower levels.

This approach made the project especially rewarding, giving us the freedom to be bold with colour, materials and finishes, and to create characterful, statement spaces which form a truly unique environment for future tenants.
